I was in the stress office at APPH and there were a bunch of us, all around the same age. in the stress and design office. A tradition of great night outs was started and this is one of them.
A draughtsman, Dave Bullen organized an AP precision Bowling night down at New Brighton I think. I drove there "across the water" in the Imp, others arrived and we had an excellent night ten pin bowling - my first time with those crazy two tone shoes on, what a laugh!.
I say across the water as that is what my dad would always say when travelling to New Brighton, usually the journey would be across Runcorn Bridge or through the Mersey Tunnel.
Afterwards we went to a club that served a free buffet, another first!. I'll always remember that a few of us could not take our eyes off this great looking girl in a long woolen dress, incredible curves and nipples like doorstops!.
Anyway, she wasn't for the likes of us, we demolished the buffet and had a dance or two. I ended up taking about six people home in the Imp, driving through the Mersey tunnel, to Speke and even as far as Huyton then back through the tunnel (or was it Runcorn bridge) in the very early hours to drop these two girls off.
If you have ever seen a Hillman Imp you will realise that squeezing seven people into one is insane, the car was slightly bigger than a mini. However, somehow through layering and lots of squeezing, they all went in.
Taking the long way home so to speak. The Imps heater had packed up and I was in danger of getting frostbite in my toes, I still had to suffer after dropping the last 'fare' off, all the way back to Skelmersdale.
The heater problem was due to a lack of water in the cooling system, a problem that was to be a signature issue for the car.
