Ouch!

The East Lancs.

Oh, another little problem I had with the Maxi was that the roll pin that connected the gear stick to the linkage had over time made the hole oval. Hence, every so often (until I bunged a bigger one in) it would drop out and the car would be rendered useless.

This one day I was on the way to Liverpool on the East Lancs and the thing migrated and slid out. I was well versed in the slipping back in thereof and opened the car door to fix it, dangling my right leg seductively into the outside world...

A sudden 500 mph wind caught the door and swung the heavy beast into my ankle. It was at that point exactly that I wanted to lie down on the hard shoulder of the East Lancs and sleep forever. Such was the intense pain.

Very shortly after that I purchased a correctly oversized roll pin and did an excellent job.....
