Take the long way home

The last two posts, placed in order, were actually written twelve years ago and related directly to the Austin Maxi, there was a definite slide into the situation that is not apparent in those posts.

The Gullick Dobson job was about a fifty minute drive, so I would leave home around 7.00am and usually not get home until after 6.00pm and often, with traffic through Wigan, 6.30pm.

It was obvious from the start with Gullicks that I was in another league of engineering, the work was serious, they were professional and for the first time in years I had a sponsor for my HNC and somewhat of a passion for the work.

I do not want to dissect what happened in the marriage, but external forces were at work while I was away from home and soon, my wife started work as a barmaid at a couple of local, and not so local, pubs and those forces increased.

If the early signs of destruction were obvious, then I missed them all because work became more of a focus than ever before, If I am honest with myself, I would not allow the household pressures that influenced my decision to leave London, and my apprenticeship, to repeat themselves.

And, as my mum used to say "while the cats away...the mice will play"
