Tenerife

August, 1986

The holiday was really the first time I had been abroad under my own steam and the first time that Karen had been on an aeroplane!

The booze was so cheap there it was dangerous, ten bob for a bottle of champagne and five San Miguels for a quid.

We stayed at a hotel called the Bahia Parque outside of Puerto de La Cruz and made use of the free bus downtown, always taking a cheap Mercedes taxi back. It was a fantastic time and the first break we had together for almost a year and we both decided to sort ourselves out.

The car rental was an Opal Corsa that we used to drive to Santa Cruz and the volcano Teide. Santa Cruz was a fascinating place, besides the usual bars and stores there was a great market, full of exotic stuff, baby birds and parrots.

The Sangria flowed full on during that holiday, big jugs with fruit and sparklers and just a dash of alcohol. It was a sad, yet happy day when it all ended, dancing in the disco and making fun of the germans.
