I finally decided to borrow some money and carefully buy a four or five year old motor. Steve Bradshaw came with me because I needed the support and someone there to hit me if I as much as suggested something bloody stupid.

We got the Auto-Trader and looked through and using our excellent experience and finely tuned judgement, marked up the potentials in the price range. The first car was a total bodge-up, the second was good and had a slight rectangular patch of slightly different colour paint on the boot. The third was crap so we went back and bought the second.

The Guy wanted 1350 quid and we ended up paying 1200 for it. I drove back to Winstanley with Steve following, the Car felt good, smelt good and for the first time in my long and checkered car career, turned out to be exactly that.
