It appeared that the new year would follow the familiar pattern of the old one, although the new car was a bright light in my life, the drive from home to work was a daily adventure and in addition, there was interest from the lads in the car, it seemed to be a novelty that I had bought something decent.
The technical manager called me into his office on the 14th January and asked if I would be willing to travel to California on company business, apparently I was second choice but the other single stress guy, Graham Miller, did not want to go because it would interfere with his day release for the IMechE exams to supplement his HND.
Time passes...
I was sitting in seat 8, row 46 of TWA 747 and was less than an hour from Los Angeles Airport, LAX. There had been a mad two weeks where the small town boy had been rushed through the British Passport and American visa process, bought himself a suit and was in a slight panic about what to expect at McDonnell Douglas.
It was going to be an exciting two weeks.
